3 Tips for Back to School Budgeting While Caring for a Loved One

Active_senior_water-LR-1.jpgIt can be challenging to balance your time and finances while you're caring for both your children and an aging or sick loved one at the same time. Now that it's back to school season, you need to budget out time and money to purchase any needed school supplies for your kids. Here are 3 tips for back to school budgeting while caring for a loved one.

1.) Keep an eye out for sales on school supplies. Many stores will advertise back to school sales via mailed catalogs/papers, in commercials, and/or online. Pay attention to when they have the sales, and take advantage of them. You will also want to compare prices at different stores.

2.) Check second-hand stores for school clothes. You can often find good-quality, gently used clothing at thrift stores. Just be sure to double-check for stains and wear before buying anything. Even when your kids are required to wear uniforms, you may still be able to find articles of clothing that are appropriate (for parts of the uniform that don't require a school logo.)

3.) Save money by shopping online wisely. If you play it right, you can save on school supplies by purchasing some or all of them online. Many online stores will offer free shipping on certain occasions or if you purchase a certain amount of merchandise. Just make sure you shop soon enough/allow enough time with shipping to receive the items before school starts.

Another benefit of buying items online is you are less likely to have problems finding specific things on your kids' supply list. Sometimes other shoppers will leave the in-store school supply aisles bare, or the stores may not have some of what you need to start with. In the long run, online shopping can sometimes save you both money and time.
